My girlfriend Stacy and I made an overnight trip, 2.5 hours from home to take in a wine/crawfish boil in Stonewall at 12 Fires Winery earlier in the day and then enjoy a debut dinner experience here at Cabernet Grill later. We were very, very pleased… here is why.

lobster topped chicken fried ribeye steak with candied maple sweet tater mash

This is a really nice place with a cool upscale, modern dining vibe to it. Yet it has somewhat rustic and classical elements as well. Dimly lit, soft indoor seating and ample outdoor patio/water feature seating as well. We had an RSVP for 530pm and got seated promptly. Sean was our server and he was on point from start to end. Kind, professional, in tune with all menu details and all of Chef Ross Burtwell’s new happenings. Quite impressive really.

I went with the sliced 45-day aged sirloin steak (medium) in au jus with wild mushrooms. I also got the seasonal vegetables as my side. This was fantastic! I love steak to death as is and this reaffirmed why I cannot ever be a vegetarian. I could never pass on a steak like this, nope!

My girlfriend got the ribeye chicken fried steak topped with lobster and green chiles gravy, and a side of candied maple sweet taters. This was the bomb! My first ever bite and taste of a chicken fried steak period. It has set the bar very high for all others to compare! Even without the succulent chunks of lobster, just the green chiles gravy, breading and tender steak alone was decadent. Not sure how my Stacy was willing to offer me up 3-4 bites of that awesome plate.

We split a side of grilled asparagus as well because we both love good asparagus when it is done well. Simple, delicious, great side pairing option to any meat dish in our book.

I also got a glass of Messina Hof Pinot Noir with my meal. My go-to wine for steak entree pairing. This did not disappoint.

We got a combo flight of the ice cream desserts plus their sorbets. Normally this is not a 7-flight dessert item but since I wanted sorbet and she wanted ice cream, they made it work for us both! The perfect spectrum of flavors for 2 people to finish and not feel too guilty about at all. We loved every one of them besides the lavender, it just lacked much flavor of any kind. Bailey’s ice cream was the winner, and the sangria sorbet was also a standout flavor we enjoyed.

From service to speed, setting, and satisfying plates of food with an expanded wine options, this place has got it going on for those in town seeking a memorable and top-notch dining experience in FBG. See the full photo/video album here.
